Violin goes native with Microsoft on all-flash arrays
Violin Memory Inc. this week launched a scale-out memory array platform that allows Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Server 2012 R2 and System Center 2012 R2 to run natively on Violin's all-flash storage systems.

Storage virtualization vendors look beyond VMware support
Although VMware remains the dominant server hypervisor, customers are turning to alternative hypervisors and frequently using more than one. When they do implement a hypervisor that's not from VMware, will they find the same depth of support from storage virtualization vendors?
The June 2012 "Worldwide Virtual Machine Software 2012-2016 Forecast" from Framingham, Mass.-based analyst firm IDC pointed to Microsoft's November 2012 release of Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 as a significant factor in the 2013 market.

Virsto upgrades virtual machine storage management SW for HA
Virsto Software Corp. this week updated its virtual machine storage management software for VMware Inc.'s vSphere server virtualization platform. Virsto for vSphere 2.0 includes improved high-availability functionality to protect data during hardware failures and increased support for Citrix Systems Inc.'s XenDesktop virtual desktop infrastructure platform.
Virsto launched in 2010 with support only for Microsoft's Hyper-V hypervisor, and added its vSphere product in January 2012. Virsto's software, which the vendor refers to as a storage hypervisor, uses a logging architecture to improve virtual environment performance. It also supports writable clones and snapshots for provisioning storage and protecting data.

Digital Reef adds support for FAST Enterprise Search Platform and Office SharePoint Server 2007
Data classification startup Digital Reef Inc. is adding support for Microsoft Corp.'s FAST Enterprise Search Platform (ESP) and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 through a new technology partnership with Microsoft.
